IMPORTANT SUMMARY
Amicus ("we," "our," or "us") provides a professional networking and matching platform for law students and legal professionals (the "Service").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information and the choices available to you.
By creating an account or using Amicus, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this Privacy Policy, including our use of AI systems as described below.
We collect information that you provide directly to us, information generated through your use of the Service, and information from third-party integrations.
(Email, name, password, education, experience, practice area, photo, bio, firm affiliation, etc.)
Collected for identification, matching, and community visibility. Location information refers only to city and state as entered by the user and does not include precise GPS or real-time geolocation data. Profile photos are stored in secure cloud storage (Replit Object Storage). All other account and profile data is stored in an encrypted PostgreSQL database.
Internal identifiers, timestamps, onboarding flags, verification, subscription status, and swipe counters.
JWT and refresh tokens, Microsoft ID (OAuth login), and Expo push tokens.
Message content, timestamps, and read receipts between matched users are stored until account deletion. Typing indicators are transmitted in real time only and are not stored.
Collected only if you opt in. Includes profile views, swipe history, embeddings, and algorithmic match scores. This data auto-deletes after 90 days.
User reports, blocked-user lists, and safety flags to prevent abuse and maintain integrity.
Impression counts and exposure caps to balance visibility across users.
Amicus uses AI systems to recommend matches between law students and legal professionals.
How it works: anonymized profile data (e.g., practice areas, experience level, bio keywords) is processed using OpenAI's "text-embedding-3-small" model to suggest relevant connections.
Data protection: personal identifiers (name, photo, email) are never sent to OpenAI.
Human review: no final decisions are made solely by AI; users retain full control over all match actions.
User notification: when you use Amicus, any recommendation labeled "AI Recommended" or similar indicates that it was generated in part by automated systems.
Opt-out: users can disable AI matching in the Settings > Privacy Controls panel.
These practices comply with emerging state AI transparency laws, including those of Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and California.
Amicus's AI systems are designed to promote fairness and opportunity across all users.
We actively test and monitor our recommendation algorithms to prevent bias related to gender, race, school, or professional background.
If you believe your experience reflects bias, you can contact amicus.the.app@gmail.com, and we will investigate in accordance with state AI accountability standards.
We use your information for the following purposes:
We do not sell or rent personal data or use it for behavioral advertising.
These bases apply only to the extent Amicus is subject to applicable international data protection laws.
